Tea evaluation consists of methodically examining five characteristics of a tea in order to assess its quality and any potential defects. The objective is to give the teas an assessment as well as a score and finally a grade, intended for tea industry stakeholders (producers, authorities, vendors).
This «professional tasting,» or «tea analysis,» follows very precise, rigorous, and standardized rules. It is the Chinese government, through its standardization system, that has approved these methods, which are now used by all tea industry players worldwide.
The evaluation of a tea, should one wish to comply with official standards, must be done with tools of regulated dimensions, colors, and shapes.
